Tourist areas of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo
If you’re wondering about the best countries in the world to unleash the joy of travel, the Dominican Republic is undoubtedly among them. It’s one of the Caribbean destinations that all travelers love thanks to the diversity of its attractions and landscapes. From Punta Cana, synonymous with miles of beaches for those looking to sunbathe, to the Samaná Peninsula, whose greenery invites you to lose yourself in nature, to Santo Domingo and its cultural offerings.

Whatever you’re looking for, if you’re traveling to the Dominican Republic, you’ll find an option that fits your dream vacation. Whether it’s your first time in this country located in the central Antilles or a repeat getaway, we’ll tell you which are the best tourist areas in the Dominican Republic.

Punta Cana, Paradise Is Here
This town of Juanillo, located in the eastern part of the Dominican Republic, is home to some of the best beaches in the world. The sandy beaches of Punta Cana are the epitome of spectacular: miles of white sand, turquoise waters, a beautiful coral reef that crisscrosses the coast, and dozens of palm trees dotted around them.

This is one of the most visited places in the Caribbean, which is why it boasts an excellent hotel infrastructure capable of serving the thousands of travelers who arrive with one common goal: enjoyment and tourism! Many would venture to say that this is the best beach area in the Dominican Republic. In fact, UNESCO has ranked the beaches of Bávaro, a spot in the Verón Punta Cana municipal district, among the best in the world. Other notable beaches include Playa Arena Gorda (a favorite of travel influencer Tracy Komlos), Playa Blanca, Playa Juanillo, and Playa Cortecito. All of them boast picture-postcard beauty and offer a multitude of restaurants and activities (scuba diving, boat trips, water sports).

Samaná, the jewel in the crown
Another of the most popular tourist areas in the Dominican Republic is Samaná. This Caribbean paradise stands out for its ecological richness and its beautiful beaches, mainly those located in the bay and on small, scattered islands (also known as cays). Once isolated due to a lack of hotel infrastructure and its own airport, the peninsula now has everything it needs to attract travelers from all over the world to choose it as a vacation destination.

Los Haitises National Park, located on the Samaná Peninsula, has become one of the Dominican Republic’s biggest tourist attractions for its beauty and ecological richness.

The “jewel of the Dominican Republic,” as it is popularly known, is a museum of tropical flora and native fauna. Many locals and visitors flock to this region between mid-January and late March to witness the migration of humpback whales, which during this time of year swap the cold waters of the north for the warm waters of the Caribbean to mate and raise their young. But they are not alone; turtles, iguanas, herons, pelicans, and the palm cigua are other animal species native to the area that attract attention.

On the Samaná Peninsula, almost everything revolves around nature. As we mentioned in our getaways for Dominican Constitution Day, the list of plans never ends. Among the most recommended excursions are a visit to Parque de los Haitises, declared a National Park of the Dominican Republic, and a hike to Salto del Limón, a 50-meter-high waterfall that ends in a natural pool. You can take a memorable dip in the latter, as well as at Playa Rincón or Cayo Levantado. Not to mention Santa Bárbara de Samaná and its colorful houses, as well as the impressive Whale Museum and the town’s waterfront promenade.

Santo Domingo, the capital of the Caribbean
There are three attributes that characterize Santo Domingo: the first is that it is the capital of the Dominican Republic; the second is that it is one of the oldest cities in the Caribbean; and the third is that its historic center (or Colonial Zone) has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it an ideal location for cultural tourism. With these credentials it would be obvious not to consider her one of
